| dc.description.abstract | Internet of Things (IoT) has gained growing popularity in recent years. IoT is defined as a variety of interconnected smart physical devices equipped with sensors and communication modules connected to the internet. Due to the IOT's vulnerability to huge kinds of attacks, as well as its heterogeneity, scalability, and limited resources, it is critically important to develop robust and adapted mechanism in order to achieve the expected security. Traditional security solutions frequently exhibit inefficiency due to issues including high computation cost, single point of failure, and power device’s wastage. Recently, in several researches, Blockchain (BC) technology has been suggested as an IoT security solution, but their adaptation to the IoT devices limitations is needed. In this thesis, we propose "Proof of Eligibility," (PoE) a new Blockchain-based mechanism suitable for low-resource devices that can be adopted in the IoT ecosystem. As clustering enhances blockchain scalability for IoT, the presented mechanism establishes an adaptive hierarchical clustered network in which the leader and cluster heads (CH) are chosen from highly resource-equipped nodes. Qualitative arguments demonstrate that our mechanism is resilient to several security attacks. Extensive simulations take place under different scenarios in terms of processing time, storage space occupation, and energy consumption. According to simulation results, proposed mechanism requires less time and energy to add a new block than relevant methods such as Proof of Work (PoW). | |
